Gregory Bomba, 45, of Newtown, surrendered himself Monday to police on an outstanding warrant in connection with a fire Feb. 3, during a past captain's dinner at Echo Hose Company #1, at 379 Coram Ave, in the rear parking lot, said Shelton Det. Chris Nugent.

An investigation revealed that the fire was intentionally started in the rear of a pickup truck which was parked abutting the firehouse, Nugent said.

Bomba was charged with arson, endangerment, criminal mischief and conspiracy, Nugent said.

He was being held on a $250,000 bond.

Last week, the department arrested volunteer firefighter William Tortora, brother of Fire Marshal James “Chic” Tortora, in connection with the fire.

According to a court affidavit, Tortora told police he was drunk when he set cardboard boxes on fire at the station and then drove down Route 8, damaging a door and car.
